Performing Arts at NIS
The Performing Arts are celebrated and encouraged at NIS. Each student from Reception to at least Year 9 has weekly Music and Drama lessons, from specialist teachers with a wealth of experience.
Our students enjoy regular performance opportunities, from solo recitals to wide-ranging group concerts. We also prepare our students for international festivals such as the Hong Kong International Music Festival.
Our students enjoy Drama and are encouraged to develop an understanding of effective communication to an audience. In lessons they learn to work effectively as part of a team, responding to a vast range of texts, from poems to Shakespeare. Students benefit from coaching in Choral Speaking, Devised Drama and Scripted Texts.
In addition to Drama lessons in the classroom, and preparation for performances, we are currently one of only three centres in Malaysia who offer students an examination centre for LAMDA examinations.
Established in 1861, The London Academy of Music and Dramatic Arts is Britain’s oldest Drama Schools and is an affiliate of the Conservatoire of Dance and Drama. The purpose of the examinations is to offer accreditation for skills in English communication, public speaking and performance.
The qualifications range from Introductory examinations to a Level 5 Diploma. Typically, school aged children will take Introductory – Level 3 examinations with grades 4 and 5 being equivalent to an IGCSE and grades 6, 7 and 8 carrying UCAS points which help gain entry to most UK Universities.
NIS benefits from having a LAMDA examiner its staff, one of less than 200 worldwide.
